Meet the author

E.J. Hutchison

Born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and raised in Oakland, California, E.J. Hutchison grew up between two worlds — one rooted in southern warmth and tradition, the other alive with rhythm, resilience, and the lessons of perseverance. His journey has been one of transformation, of finding light through loss and clarity through faith.

Writing, for him, has never been just about words. It’s been a way of listening — to God, to his own heart, and to the quiet truths that often go unnoticed in the rush of life. Through every page, he strives to share the moments that shaped him, the prayers that carried him, and the grace that continues to unfold along the way.

His work is deeply personal, spiritual, and transparent — born out of a desire to remind others that they are never forgot-ten, never unseen, and never beyond the reach of God’s love. He writes for those who have and currently walked through storms, A Safe Place to Land, who have doubted their strength, as well as who are still searching for meaning in the spaces between pain and peace.

Now living in The Washington, D.C., area, he continues to write from a place of reflection and gratitude, often in the quiet company of his loyal Doberman, Onyx. For eight years, Onyx has been more than a companion — he’s been a silent witness to every late-night writing session, every tear, and every answered prayer.

Through his writing, E.J. Hutchison hopes to remind readers that every chapter of life — even the difficult ones — serves a divine purpose. His message is simple but enduring: that God restores, redeems, and renews all things in His time.

FAQs

  • Because someone out there is in the middle of their storm right now—and they need to know they're not alone. I didn't want to sanitize my pain or wait until I had all the answers. Real faith isn't just testified from the mountaintop—it's also declared in the valley. If my transparency can be a lifeline for even one person, then the vulnerability is worth it.

  • This book is for anyone navigating loss—whether that's divorce, death, disappointment, or the death of a dream. It's for men who've been told to "man up" instead of being allowed to grieve. It's for women praying for the men they love. It's for anyone who's ever felt like their faith wasn't enough to fix what's broken. If you're standing in the ruins wondering if restoration is still possible, this book is for you.

  • The Azanaa Project is my life's work—a ministry born from my journey through loss and restoration. Named after my daughter Azanaa, it's a space dedicated to helping people rebuild after life falls apart. Through writing, speaking, and honest conversation, I want to create safe places where people can land, heal, and discover that their story isn't over. This book is just the beginning.

  • Onyx is more than my service dog—he's been my constant companion for eight years. He's walked beside me through every season: the celebrations, the losses, the silent nights when no one else was there. He doesn't judge. He doesn't leave. He just stays. In many ways, he's taught me what unconditional love looks like. You'll see him referenced throughout the book because he's been a witness to every tear and every triumph.

  • Yes. I speak to churches, men's groups, marriage conferences, and anyone walking through seasons of loss and restoration. My message is simple: God doesn't waste your pain. If you're interested in having me share my story with your community, reach out at azanaproject22@gmail.com.

  • I'm continuing to write, speak, and build The Azanaa Project. There are more stories to tell, more conversations to have, and more lives to touch. I'm also working on resources for men navigating vulnerability, faith in the wilderness, and what it really means to rebuild after everything falls apart. This is just the beginning.
